Hey crafters! For anyone who isn’t familiar, the Craft and Hobby Association puts on a giant winter trade show every year. Manufacturers, buyers, press, exhibitors, and more have the opportunity to network over the course of a four-day weekend. This year, the team at Prime Publishing (our company that hosts FaveCrafts, AllFreePaperCrafts, and 26 other cooking and crafting websites) not only attended the trade show, but we put on our second annual blogger and company networking event!

The event itself took some preparation from team Prime Publishing. Perhaps the most important part was making mustache props for our beauteous photo booth:

Just kidding. This was absolutely not the most important part of preparing for the event, but it was necessary and good fun! We used our office Silhouette machine. . . .Mustaches Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

. . . . and we produced these gorgeous creations, one type of mustache for each of the sponsors:20140109 133647 168x300 Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

The event opened with a mini cocktail hour (more like a cocktail fifteen minutes). Each blogger got free drinks and free food!IMG 0066 1024x768 Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

The bloggers then filed inside the ballroom and filled their plates with hors d’oeuvres:IMG 0081 1024x768 Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

Simone Collins, the director of the craft sites as well as our social media director, gave a brief opening talk that introduced all of the sponsors and explained the speed-dating style that this event would take on. FaveCrafts, AllFreeCrochet, and each sponsor had a table, and the bloggers moved to the various tables each time a bell was rung. It was a great way for everyone to meet everyone!IMG 0089 1024x768 Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

For the next hour, bloggers networked with companies and we got to meet bloggers who already work on FaveCrafts and other Prime Publishing sites! It was a great way for bloggers to put a face to an email address! Making Friends at our 2014 CHA Blogger Event!

At the end of the event, the sponsors were extremely generous to supply not one, not two, not three, but FOUR swag bags to each individual blogger! The amount of swag literally filled this table:

And the bloggers needed to carry it all like this:

All in all, it was a HUGE success and we can’t thank our sponsors enough!

  1. Do you know of any uses (kraft or other wise) That you can use extra packing peanuts or bubble wrap? Thanks for your help. Delores

  2. Sounds like a really amazing event and a great opportunity to network and meet the team. I was wondering, how do I get an invite to meet you all at the next event? Perhaps you could drop me a line – I’d love to say hi!

  3. Julia Joyner says:

I enjoy doing all kinds of crafts. A few years ago, I found some of the very large pine cones and made some very unusual Christmas decorations with them. Most were designed to be door knob hangers. I would love to find more and create some other items but they are very hard to find. Do you know of a source that would have the large pine cones? I have only been able to find the small ones and they just don’t work as well with the designs I have in mind. Thank you for such a fun place to come to for great ideas.

  4. It is a dream is to have my craft room organized so that ever thing has it place. So that I now for sure what I have and were it is. I Love doing crochet and hand embroidery but the cost of getting material for projects is very high when you are on a fixed income.

  5. Sharon Hannifin says:

I would learn to machine embroidery. I hand embroidery on cards now and am learning Brazilian Embroidery. I craft!

  6. I’d make one of a kind “boxes” for my one of a kind jewelry pieces. What a great event! Thanks for sharing it with us!

  7. I enjoy knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, and sewing … I am always looking for a challenge.
