When I was little, my siblings and I used to sneak into my mom’s craft room and try to create a gift that would impress her. Nothing says “I love you” like a macaroni necklace, right? It didn’t matter if it was a finger-painted card or a beaded bracelet, my mom collected those gifts and still has them displayed in the craft room to this day.

I totally support the homemade gifts idea. It’s impossible to remember who gave you that shirt or throw pillow, but a homemade gift spews with the giver’s identity, especially a child’s. There are endless possibilities with these ideas! The shrink plastic charm bracelet is a great group project or party. Each kid in a group can make a charm for the others, so everyone’s charm bracelet is full by the end of the day!

I love every homemade gift I received, but one of my current favorites is a wooden shoe that my sister carved me when she was in high school (or it at least resembles a shoe). It’s small but very eye-appealing, and as someone who constantly needs quarters for the meters it’s the most reliable change dish I’ve ever had!
