Wreath Embellishments

Garlands- The basis for most wreaths is an evergreen garland. You can buy an artificial garland for longevity, but fresh hemlock, Douglas fir, or spruce will look and smell better.  Make bunches of fresh cut evergreens and affix to the ring with wire. For a different look, try glittery artificial holly or silk ivy.

Dried flowers- Dried flowers, such as poinsettias, add a wonderful, natural touch to wreaths.

Holly- Touches of fresh holly turn an evergreen wreath into a true Christmas wreath.

Pinecones- Gather up some pinecones from your backyard and use a hot glue gun to affix to your wreath.

Fruit- Dried pomegranates, red apples, or red berry clusters add the appropriate splash of red to a Christmas wreath.

Candy- Candy canes are a cut addition to a Christmas wreath. Or, for a fully edible wreath to present to a kid, string gummy Lifesavers onto a length of red rope or string licorice.

Plastic- Create an untraditional “crystal” wreath by bunching plastic sandwich bags (the fold-over kind) or sheets of plastic gift paper onto craft wire.

Feather Boa- Certainly untraditional, a white feather boa is a great base for a snow-themed Christmas wreath.

Chili Peppers- If you love spicy food, why not use large red and green chili peppers (poblano for instance) in a Christmas wreath? Use dried chilies for more longevity and incorporate into your cooking after the holidays.
