Snowman Mug Hug

Take inspiration from the outdoors for a warm crochet Snowman Mug Hug. This easy crochet Christmas pattern is one you can take with you anywhere when you need a little extra warmth for your drink. If you know a coffee or tea lover, a craft snowman mug cover would be a cute homemade Christmas gift that's functional, but also festive. You can also use this pattern to make even more mug hugs throughout the year for any occasion.

Hug fits 4" (10 cm) high mug with 3" (9 cm) top diameter and 2" (5 cm) bottom diameter.

RED HEART® Super Saver®: 1 skein each of 316 Soft White A, 254 Pumpkin B, 312 Black C, and 885 Delft Blue D.

Crochet Hooks:  3.5mm [US E-4] and 5.0mm [US H-8].
Yarn needle, ¾" (19 mm) diameter button.

Gauge: 8 sts = 2" (5 cm); 8 rows = 2" (5 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain gauge.



NOTE: Hug size can be easily changed by adding or subtracting chains at beginning of wrap and by adding or subtracting rows at end of wrap.

HUG
Wrap

With A, ch 14.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each remaining ch across, ch 1; turn – 13 sc.

Rows 2 – 34: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, ch 1; turn. At end of Row 34, ch 10, slip st to last sc of Row 34 (button loop made).
Fasten off.

Nose
With B and E hook, ch 5, slip st in second ch from hook, sc next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch.
Fasten off.

Scarf
With D, ch 38.
Row 1: Hdc in second ch from hook and each remaining ch across, ch 1; turn – 37 hdc.

Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across.
Fasten off.

Tie
With D, ch 11.
Row 1: Hdc in second ch from hook and each remaining ch across, ch 1; turn – 10 hdc.

Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across.
Fasten off.



ASSEMBLY
Using photo as a guide, sew nose in place with B. With C, embroider French knots for mouth and satin st eyes. With D, sew scarf around bottom of wrap about ½"
(13 mm) up.
Gather middle of tie together and sew to scarf. Sew button in place on back of wrap.
Weave in ends.

(4 medium) RED HEART® Super Saver®: Art. E300 available in solid color 7 oz (198 g), 364 yd (333 m); multi color, fleck and print 5 oz (141 g), 244 yd (223 m) skeins.
