The gold and aquamarine beads compliment each other perfectly in this simple jewelry project.

By Margot Potter for Beadalon

Materials:

  • 1 tube - 4mm Gold Toho cube beads
  • 12 - 12mm Aqua faceted rounded cube glass beads
  • 1 - Triple filigree style clasp, gold plating
  • 1 - 6mm Medium split ring
  • 6 - Size #2 Crimp tubes, gold plated
  • 15 ft. spool - Beadalon 19 Strand gold plated .018 in. stringing wire
  • Designer crimper
  • Designer flush cutters
  • Beadalon bead board

Steps:

Note: To complete this project, you will need to be familiar with attaching a clasp with crimp tubes and weaving beaded wire.

  1. Begin by assembling materials and laying out your beads on a bead board. A bead board keeps your project organized with all your materials handy. It makes it easy to plan and follow a pattern.

  2. Attach three 17 in. lengths of Beadalon 19 Strand gold plated .018 in. jewelry wire to one end of your clasp. Use crimp tubes and a crimper.

  3. Thread all three strands through one Toho cube bead. Thread one strand through a cube and two through a second cube then all three through one cube, then one through one cube and two through another. All three strands will be threaded through an aqua glass cube.

  4. Repeat this pattern, adjusting the tension on the strands as you move around the necklace. This is a little tricky; it takes some practice to find the proper tension to keep the piece from being too loose or too tight. Refer to the photo for reference.

  5. Make your way around the necklace until threading the final aqua cube and the last set of Toho cubes. There should be 12 aqua cubes in your design.

  6. Using a crimp tool, attach the three strands to the opposite end of your filigree clasp. Trim excess wire using flush cutters.
