The loyal crafter never tires of cheap DIY ideas. Here's one that's fun and functional. This Vintage-Inspired Pillowcase Apron project has it all. You can learn how to make clothes, participate in green crafts and make something that's vintage. By the time you're through with this project, you might just even find cooking more enjoyable. It couldn't be otherwise when you're dressed so well. Go ahead and try something new with this cute DIY apron.

  • Ric rac
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Pins


  1. Fold closed end of pillowcase down 3-3/4" press and cut.

  2. Trim off sewn end as close to edge as possible about 1/4".

  3. Separate the two ties.

  4. Turn edges down 1/4" on both long edges and one short edge. Press or pin. Fold in half lengthwise and sew these three sides. Zigzag the open edge to keep from fraying.

  5. Lay pillowcase with open side up. Place 1" of the tie just above the pillowcase stitchline. Fold open end over the tie and pin. Fold and pin entire edge and insert 1" of other tie in opposite end.

  6. Sew all four sides.

  7. Fold under about 1/4" all around the bottom of apron. Pin and sew on embellishment.

  8. Fold up bottom of apron about 8". Pin sides and middle to create pockets.

  9. Sew three sides and middle. I double stitched middle to reinforce.

Have a few cases that I've lost the mate to, going to use them to make me a few aprons that I've been wanting for cooking dinners. Thanks for such a great idea for using those cases up instead of just tossing out!!
