Finishing

  1. Weave in ends.

Fringe

  1. Cut 30” lengths of yarn. Hold 3 strands together and fold in half.

  2. Insert hook in ch-4 space or dc-space at the end of any row. Insert hook into fold and draw loop through. Thread ends of strands through loop and pull gently to tighten; repeat from * to attach a fringe to the end of every row of side edges and across lower edge (inserting hook into ch-spaces across lower edge).

Notes

  1. Gauge: 1 pattern repeat = 9½”; 6 rows = 4”. Notes: One pattern repeat consists of a pineapple pattern at its widest and the surrounding ch-spaces and shells. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

  2. Shawl is worked from lower edge upwards. Work in stitches and ch-spaces indicated only, skip all other stitches and ch-spaces.

  3. Shawl measures 77” wide (across top edge) x 34” long (not including fringe).

Special Stitches

  1. Shell = Work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in indicated stitch or ch-space.

  2. Increase-shell = Work (2 dc, [ch 2, dc] twice, ch 2, 2 dc) in indicated ch-space.

Abbreviations

  1. ch = chain; dc = double crochet; sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch(es); * = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated; [ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified; ( ) = work directions in parentheses into same st.
