Beaded Snowman Denim Vest

By:

Here's a fun way to use fabric scraps - especially scraps with cute designs like this snowman fabric square. We love to buy denim vests at consignment stores and Goodwill stores, then decorate for each season. The metallic threads add a touch of bling for more fun, and the beads make your fashion art trendy.

Beaded Snowman Denim Vest Project

Materials:

  • Printed fabric square or panel with desired pattern, 8" x 10" or less
  • Two 8" x 10" Treasure Tape sheets
  • Diamond Beadlets
  • 1/4" Red ribbon (or ribbon to match your design)
  • Kreinik 1/8" Ribbon in 015 Chartreuse (or color to match your design)
  • Kreinik #12 Braid 091 Star Yellow and 027 Orange, 005 Black (or color to match your design)
  • Misc. small buttons to coordinate with your design

Steps:

  1. Remove the red liner from one 8" x 10" sheet of red liner Treasure Tape. Lay your fabric square right-side up on the Treasure Tape.

  2. Remove the white liner of your next piece of Treasure Tape and carefully lay it on top of your fabric square. Trim to desired size.

  3. Remove the red liner to begin decorating your design.

  4. First lay your buttons as desired on the sticky tape. We used white buttons as snowflakes and gray buttons on the snowman.

  5. Then do your thread decorating, using the #12 Braid to "color" in select areas on your design. For example, we decorated the star in our design. We used 027 Orange to color in the snowman's nose. We used 005 Black to outline the wavy border.

  6. Lay the red satin ribbon around the outside of the design.

  7. Lay the Kreinik metallic 1/8" Ribbon on the outside of the red ribbon.

  8. Attach your decorated design to your denim vest by peeling off the white backer on the back of your design.

  9. Then lay the design in a pan or tray and cover all remaining sticky areas with Diamond Beadlets. Tap to remove excess beadlets.

Note: Treasure Tape is washable when heat-set. Use a press cloth and high heat for several seconds. Wash on gentle with your garment turned inside out. Hang to dry.
