Dog Yarn Painting

Materials:

  • A board
  • Glue
  • Yarn scraps
  • Sharp scissors
  • Bone folder to help place & burnish the cut yarn.

Instructions:

  1. The first thing I did was to print a photo of Moe. Then I glued it to a board.

  2. Then I started filling in the shapes with strips of yarn.

  3. I burnish each piece of yarn down with the bone folder after I lay it on the strip of gel glue. I gently push it up against the previous row and snip it at the end with the sharp scissors to the correct length. I think it really changed from a photo to a painting when I filled in the eyes.

  4. I think it adds more interest when I change some areas from horizontal to vertical yarn placement.

  5. The final step was to put in the background which I also filled in with both horizontal and vertical yarn placemant to add flow and texture.

This is gorgeous. I would love to do one of my miniature poodle. How do you do a white dog? Just white harm and maybe roll it to resemble curls?

Great idea - I am going to try this, only with a picture of my cat instead. She is the only one around here who seems to really like the stray bits of yarn in my apartment anyway.
