Faux Copper Finish on Upcycled Tub

"On a recent antiquing jaunt, I found a copper tub that I really wanted to bring home, but since it was the first stop, I didn't want to spend my wad right off. Luckily, at the same spot I spied a old metal tub, exactly the same size and shape of the copper one at one-tenth of the cost, but painted black and adorned with a duck. The tub, as is, didn't quite suit my taste, but I was pretty sure I could apply some 'faux' magic and get pretty darn close to a 'copper tub'."

Materials List

  • Item to paint
  • Modern Masters AM203-16 Acid Blocking Primer Red, 16-Ounce
  • Modern Masters ME149-06 Reactive Metallic Copper, 6-Ounce
  • Orbital Sander. This just makes every job so much easier, but regular old sand paper will work as well.
  • Small sponge roller. My go-to tool to avoid brush strokes.
  • Paint for handles. I used DecoArt Lamp Acrylic Paint and DecoArt Americana Glorious Gold.

NotesMy 'copper' tub is perfect to hold my firewood this fall and I'm on the lookout for more things that could use a little faux magic!
