Decorate a Tin Can Pencil Holder with your favorite characters or celebrities, like this one from Alyice Edrich.  Tin can crafts are great for kids, too.  Teachers can also use these pencil holders as recycle crafts for kids in the classroom.

  1. Remove the label from a can of vegetables, then wash and dry the empty can.

  2. Put on a mask, then spray the inside and outside of the can and let dry for at least 3 hours.

  3. Rip your favorite picture or text out of an old book or magazine.

  4. Paint the outside of the can by dry-brushing various colors onto the can, allowing the base color to show through and let dry.

I like to use cans to make outdoor candle holders for the holidays. use a drill to make designs that let the light shine out. One Halloween I cut out cats, pumpkins and witch shapes, spray painted the cans black and orange, and gave them to the kids who came by. Use cheap votive candles. They can be used as pencil holders too or put candy in little baggies into the holders.

In step #2 what are you suppose to spray the inside and outside of the can with?

When you open a can of vegetables, or anything, it leaves a sharp metal edge along the top, what do you do with this so no one gets cut?
