St Patrick’s Day has long been a holiday on the lighter side. Simple celebrations of food, fun, music and laughter to warm our hearts on these last remaining days of winter. Whether you are Irish by heritage or just want to brighten someone’s day, here is a simple pop up card to make and give.

Materials:

  • Green cardstock
  • 2 tones of tan cardstock
  • Coffee grounds and a few pinches of cocoa powder mixed together.
  • Shades of brown ink (I used Ranger Distress inks in Antique Linen, Tea Dye and Faded Burlap)
  • Stipple brush
  • Circle punch
  • Heart punch
  • Double sided adhesive
  • Scissors (and large deckled edge scissors if available)
  • Glue Pen by EK Success
  • Graphed ruler EK Success

Instructions:

  1. Cut a piece of cardstock 8-1/2" X 4-1/4. Fold in half. Take a slightly darker piece of cardstock and cut 8" X 3-3/4". Fold in half.

  2. On the lighter piece, add brown inks with a stipple brush keeping darker shades in the middle and lighter shades toward the outside.

  3. On the darker cardstock, find the center of the folded edge, Measure and mark ½ inch on either side of center. Measure and mark 1 inch down. Cut on the 2 side marks and fold on the horizontal mark (Now when you open it up and push fold in the opposite direction you have a place for a Pop Up.)

  4. Stipple with brown inks on and around the pop up area.. Cut out verses and stipple with inks The front verse, you can cut along sides with a large deckle scissors or random jagged edges with regular scissors.. Attach a strip of paper to form a sign. The St Patrick’s Day gets mounted on a piece of green paper.

  5. Punch out 4 hearts and 1 circle out of green cardstock. Fold hearts in half for added dimension. Glue onto the circle. Cut a narrow strip of green paper on an angle and attach for the stem of the clover.

  6. Using the glue pen, draw jagged lines and dots to represent the dirt. Sprinkle with the coffee/cocoa mixture, let dry.

  7. Now you are ready to assemble the card.

  8. Attach the sign to the front of the card. Attach the inside pop up to the card making sure to line up with the fold. Attach verses and clover with double sided tape.
