Recycled Fabric Scarf

By:

Learn how to make a scarf the eco-friendly way! The recycled fabric scarf from Samantha Palacio is quick and easy, and it looks cute too.

Recycled Fabric Scarf

Materials:

  • T-shirts or fabric
  • A sewing machine or needle and thread

Instructions:

  1. The fabric squares were cut to approximately 5x7 inches.

  2. I lined them up in alternating colors and created an overlap of about 1/2"

  3. I sewed them together using a loose zigzag stitch.

  4. You end up with a long scarf of fabric squares.

  5. You can go several ways from here. You can cut a long piece of fleece and attach it to the back of your square using a zigzag stitch along the edges. You can sew two scarves together hiding the overlap between the two. You can use organic cotton or felt as well to line the back.

  6. You can leave the edges raw like I did or serge the edges for a more finished look. I like raw edges and rough, even seams. I chose not to back my scarf or sew the edges.
