Mini Cupcake Pin Cushion

Materials:

  • 4 1/2" Diameter circle of fabric
  • Puff of Polyfil or a few cotton balls
  • Plastic bottle cap
  • Yellow or coordinating paint
  • Paint brush
  • Needle and thread
  • Hot glue or super tacky glue
  • Optional: Red craft gem for a cherry

Instructions:

  1. Paint your bottle cap and allow it to dry.

  2. Using a running or gathering stitch, stitch along the outside edge of the circle of fabric and pull lightly to semi-gather the circle. Remember to keep the right side of the fabric to the outside with the wrong side of the fabric inside the gathering ball of fabric. Stuff the Polyfil stuffing or cotton balls inside and pull your gathering stitch firm, knot off.

  3. Using hot glue or super tacky glue, apply some glue to the inside of the bottle cap and also to the bottom of your gathered fabric ball. Insert ball with knotted side down to the inside of the bottle cap. Hold firm to let glue set.

  4. Finish with a red craft gem cherry! You can also use this little cupcake as a wrist pin cushion by adhering it to a band of elastic or adhere it to a ring finding to make it a finger pin cushion!

I love this project great for my 3 year old class. Will use a rubber band instead of needle and thread. Will cut my circle a bit bigger but it will work, thanks for the great idea. Rosie

I used to make these with an elastic strap to fit finger, handy for when you are sewing to stick those pins in. I used the soda bottle caps. green red yellow orange etc.

Easy to make.

This was really easy to make. I made two just to try it out, but I didn't paint the caps. I plan on making more. HINT: The deeper leads look better and are easier to make these with, in my opinion.

wouldn't this make a cute magnet??

I was thinking about that. If a person has a metal sewing machine they could use these pin cushions on it.
