Kooky Stuffed Owl

Need a quick gift or accent piece? Check out Cecilia Jorcin's Kooky Stuffed Owl tutorial. Homemade stuffed owl patterns are a great way to save money and add a personal touch to a gift.

Kooky Stuffed Owl

Materials:

  • approximately 8 x 12 inches of fabric
  • scraps of fabric for the wings, feet, beak and eyes (I recommend to use felt for the feet since you don't need to finish the edges)
  • 2 buttons
  • thread
  • needle
  • sewing machine

Pattern:

  • Click here to download the free pattern. Print the pattern and cut the pieces along the full lines.
  • Use the pattern to cut the pieces. Next you have the diagram for 2 slightly different owls, the first one with one eye bigger than the other, I think this option looks kind of cute when finished. The second one has both eyes the same size.

Instructions:

  1. Set your machine to a short zig-zag. Take both pieces for each eye together, sew along the edge to attach the smaller piece to the bigger piece. Repeat this step to make the other eye.

  2. Place the eyes over the body and sew along the edge.

  3. Sew one button on each eye and attach the beak, wings and feet.

  4. Now set your sewing machine to a regular straight stitch. Take both pieces for the body right sides facing. Sew along the edge leaving an opening at the bottom (as shown by the dotted lines in the pattern). Clip cut the seam allowance in the curved edges (it will make it look better when to turn it right side out).

  5. Turn the owl right side out and stuff the owl with cotton or any other material.

  6. Slip stitch to close the opening, you can use the sewing machine as well, but I think slip stitching looks better.

  7. Enjoy your new handmade little buddy!!!

Absolutely adorable. For such a spooky bird, they make the most adorable crafts

I like this one better than the other owl toy.

soO cute I am going to make some of these I can hardly wait to get started these loOk much easier then the crochet ones as far as i can say because i can sew pretty well but not so great at crocheting :( (so I pick this one as the winner...for myself any way )

Looks a nice quick and easy projet to make. Great idea!

Fresh and fun. An easy project which brings a smile to my face.

These are so sweet!

Lovely little owl. I collect owl ornaments and have now started making them in fabric. This one is comical with his eyes at different levels. Thank you for sharing him :)

I LOVE these little guys! I remember people collecting owls back in the 70's but I was never much of a fan. Now that owls are making a comeback, I think this new "modern" style owl is just too cute! It's very whimsical. I make rag quilts so I could make these up with the leftover sccraps for a nice little accompaniment to the quilt. Thank you for the tute!

omg that is so cute my cuz whould love to get one of these and i think i will make her one of these or a couple i am not in to owls but i like these

If you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE owls. I am sure you can imagine how elated I was when I opened my email, and saw that this was the first email my eyes fell upon. I am going to make some owls today :) Thanks so much for sharing. Tamara :)

these are so cute, as soon as I get my craft room organized I will be stitching up a bunch of these.
