Use soft book panels to create a nursery quilt with a story theme. Mom and Dad can read the panels to the child at bedtime.

Story Quilt

Materials:

  • 1 BaZooples Soft Book Panel, Item #1516582
  • 2¾ yards BaZooples Animal Toss Blue, Item #1516578
  • 1¾ yards BaZooples Patch Allover, Item #1516585
  • 1½ yards BaZooples Animal Toss Yellow, Item #1516572
  • Crib-size Batting

Cutting:

  1. From the Soft Book panel, cut nine 7½” x 10½” rectangles, centering a design in each rectangle.

  2. From the Animal Toss blue print, cut eight 2½” x Width of Fabric (WOF) strips. From these eight strips, cut four 2½” x 25½” strips for the horizontal sashing strips and cut six 2½” x 10½” strips for the interior vertical sashing strips and two 2½” x 38½” strips for the exterior vertical sashing strips.

  3. From the Animal Toss blue print, cut five 2¼” x WOF strips for the binding.

  4. From the Animal Toss blue print, use the remaining fabric for the backing 44” x 54”.

  5. From the Patch A/O print, cut two 2¾” x 44½” strips centered lengthwise over design as shown in illustration, for the inner border sides.

  6. From the Patch A/O print, cut two 3½” x 29½” strips, centered horizontally over design as shown in illustration, for the top and bottom inner border.

  7. From the Animal Toss yellow print, cut two 3½” x 50½” strips from the length of fabric for the side outside borders.

  8. From the Animal Toss yellow print, cut two 3½” x 33½” strips from the length of fabric for the top and bottom outside border.

Assembly:

  1. Starting and ending with one 7½” x 10½” Book Panel (in order as shown on picture), sew together three book panels and two 2½” x 10½” sashing strips to make one row. Repeat to make three pieced rows total.

  2. Starting and ending with one 2½” x 25½” horizontal sashing strip, sew together four 2½” x 25½” sashing strips and the three pieced rows from Step 1 to make the quilt top.

  3. Sew one 2½” x 38½” exterior vertical sashing strip to each side of the quilt top.

  4. Sew one 3½” x 29½” Patch A/O strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top.

  5. Sew one 2½” x 44½” Patch A/O strip to each side of the quilt top.

  6. Sew one 3½” x 33½” Animal Toss strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
