Running Eighths Quilt

This intermediate quilt pattern features a special fabric with 8 different coordinating patterns in every yard. In bright greens, this quilt looks perfect for spring decorating, but 10 colors are available.

Running Eight Quilt


Materials:

  • Running 8ths - 7 yards

Cutting Instructions:

Section #1

  • Cut 24 - 2” x 6½” rectangles for Block A
  • Cut 2 - 4½” x 12½” rectangles for border
  • Cut 4 - 4½” x 16½” rectangles for border

Section #2

  • Cut 24 - 2” X 6½” rectangles for Block A
  • Cut 4 - 4½” x 16½” rectangles for border

Section #3

  • Cut 5 - 2½” x 44½” horizontal sashing strips
  • Cut 16 - 2½” x 12½” vertical sashing strips
  • Cut 4 - 4½” squares for border corners

Section #4

  • Cut 24 - 2” x 6½” rectangles for Block B

Section #5

  • Cut 24 - 2” x 6½” rectangles for Block A

Section #6

  • Cut 24 - 2” x 6½” rectangles for Block A

Section #7

  • Cut 12 - 5” x 6½” rectangles for Block B

Section #8

  • Cut 12 - 5” x 6½” rectangles for Block A
  • Cut 2 - 4½” x 26½” rectangles for border


Assembly Instructions:

  1. Join 2” x 6½” rectangles of Fabric #2, #5, #6, and #1 to make a Block A Unit. Repeat to make four Block A Units.
     
  2. Join the Block A Units to complete Block A (Fig.1). Make 6 Block A.
     
  3. Sew one 5” x 6½” Fabric #7 rectangle to one 2” x 6½” Fabric #4 rectangle to make a Block B Unit. Make 2 Block B Units. Use 5” x 6½” Fabric #8 rectangles and 2” x 6½” Fabric #4 rectangles to make 2 Block B Units.
     
  4. Join the Block B Units to complete Block B (Fig.2). Make 6 Block B.
     
  5. Refer to the quilt photo and diagram (Fig. 3) to sew the blocks and sashing strips together.
     
  6. Add borders to quilt center.
     
  7. Layer, quilt, and bind as desired.
