Honeysuckle Quilt

This colorful quilt pattern features an attractive arrangement of fabric triangles. Diagrams help simplify this intermediate quilt pattern.


Honeysuckle Quilt

 

Materials:

  • Fabric A: Transitions Honeysuckle - Yellow (1547415) 11/8 yard
  • Fabric B: Transitions Honeysuckle - Magenta (1547428) 1½ yards (includes binding)
  • Fabric C: Transitions Honeysuckle - Fuchsia (1547425) 1¼ yards (includes border)
  • Fabric D: Transitions Honeysuckle - Orange (1547418) ¾ yard
  • Backing: Your Choice 4 yards


Cutting Directions:

  • Fabric A: Cut 6 strips 4 7/8” x WOF. Cut 60 squares from the strips.
  • Fabric B: Cut 8 strips 4 7/8” x WOF. Cut 60 squares from the strips. Cut 6 strips 2½” x WOF for binding.
  • Fabric C: Cut 5 strips 4 7/8” x WOF. Cut 36 squares from the strips. Cut 6 strips 2½” x WOF for borders.
  • Fabric D: Cut 5 strips 4 7/8” x WOF. Cut 36 squares from the strips.
  • Backing: Create a 61” x 77” rectangle for backing.

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of all Fabric A squares. Place 12 Fabric A squares right sides together with 12 Fabric A squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 24 half square triangles. (Fig. 2)
     
  2. Place 18 Fabric A squares right sides together with 18 Fabric B squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 36 half square triangles. (Fig. 3)
     
  3. Place 18 Fabric A squares right sides together with 18 Fabric C squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 36 half square triangles. (Fig. 4)
     
  4. Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of all remaining Fabric B squares. Place 30 Fabric B squares right sides together with 30 Fabric D squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 60 half square triangles. (Fig. 5)
     
  5. Place 12 Fabric B squares right sides together with 12 Fabric C squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 24 half square triangles. (Fig. 6)
     
  6. Place 6 Fabric C squares right sides together with 6 Fabric D squares. Stitch ¼” on each side of the drawn line. (Fig. 1) Cut apart on the solid line. Makes 12 half square triangles. (Fig. 7)
     
  7. Piece 6 Block 1 (Fig. 8) and 6 Block 2 (Fig. 9) referring to the photograph, if necessary.
     
  8.  Piece blocks together into 4 rows of 3 blocks each. Row 1: Block 1-2-1; Row 2: Block 2-1-1; Row 3: Block 2-1-2; Row 4: Block 1-2-1. Refer to quilt layout at the top of the page, or refer to the photo on reverse side of page. Quilt should measure 48½” x 64½”. (Measure your quilt to determine the length of your borders.)
     
  9. Piece 2½” strips of Fabric C together to make 2 strips 2½” x 64½”. Stitch these to the sides of the quilt top. Piece 2½” strips of Fabric C together to make 2 strips 2½” x 52½”. Stitch these to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
     
  10. Layer, quilt as desired, and bind.
