14 Homemade Christmas Gifts for Men

By: Caley Walsh, FaveCrafts.com Editor

This season, find the perfect Christmas gifts for men on your list with these ideas for inexpensive gifts to make. Homemade Christmas gifts for men help you to save money and can be easily customized for your recipient. You can add special touches of personalization, such as embroidered or painted initials. In a tough economy, people are expecting more modest presents, and your favorite guys are sure to be impressed by the time and effort involved in homemade gifts. Here are our top homemade Christmas gifts for men.

Socks and Slippers

Many homes operate on a strict no-outdoor-shoe policy. In the winter, that may leave feet a bit too exposed to dropping temperatures. Warm slippers and socks make fantastic homemade Christmas gifts for men. They are quick projects and can be made from scrap yarns, making them inexpensive gifts to make. Use warm and comfortable cashmere for an extra special treat when you don’t need a lot of yarn. Here are some patterns:

Scrap Yarn Slippers   Socks for the Family   Cabin Slippers

Cable Socks for Men- Knit a pair of cable socks with attractive cable pattern.

Knit Socks for the Family- With this basic pattern, you can create comfortable socks in whatever yarn you choose.

Crochet Slippers- These quick and easy slippers can be adjusted for larger foot sizes.

Cozy Cabin Slippers- These slippers are made quickly on a knitting board.

Clocks

Any guy can appreciate a nice clock, especially a decorative clock for a work desk or home office. Many craft stores and online retailers sell clock kits to make your own clock with materials such as wood, foam or even simple cardboard.  Here are some clock crafts for homemade Christmas gifts for men:

Geode Clock   Wood Button Clock   Gears Cottage Clock

Easy Geode Clock- This clock arrangement would be great for a desk.

Wood Button Clock- This simple clock can be done with a variety of decorative papers.

Gears Cottage Clock- With metal wire and washers for numbers, this clock celebrates hardware.

Candles and Soaps

Soap is absolutely essential and everyone needs a few candles around the house, to relax at the end of the day or just in case the lights go out. With homemade crafts, you can create candles and soaps with a masculine look and smell. You can purchase plain wax to make candles, ideally in environmentally-friend soy or beeswax instead of petroleum derived paraffin wax.

Making soap from scratch is tricky, as the essential ingredient lye is very corrosive and not easy to purchase. Instead, you can purchase melt and pour soap bases, to which you add your own personal touches, such as fresh herbs.  For an easy short cut, purchase plain soap at the store, shave into small pieces using a grater and melt over the stove. For dry or sensitive skin, add oatmeal and honey. Pour into a mold or use a small baking pan lined with wax paper. Cut into squares when set.

When making candles, add fragrances and color specifically for the wax. I would avoid floral fragrances and stick to popular citrus scents, mints and “masculine” scents like sandalwood.  You can also pick sweet food scents if your guy loves his dessert.

Feathered Wax Candle   Snowball Candle   Layered Wax

3-Wick Feather Wax- These large, feathered candles are very elegant for home décor.

Snowball Candle- Give him a playful snowball candle at the holidays. Just don’t throw it!

Layered Wax Candles- Different colors add a fun look to these glass jar candles.

Wax Art Crystal Candles- Granulated wax makes for a unique layered candle in a small glass container.
