This versatile Fourth of July craft idea makes a great gift for your friends.  Feeling more creative?  Try turning this Fourth of July Pinwheel Pin into a magnet.

Materials:

  • 7 mesh plastic canvas (we used Quick-Count™ by Uniek)
  • Kreinik 1/8” ribbon in 051HL, 003, and 032
  • 3/4” pinback (or 1/2” magnetic strip if you want to use it as a fridge magnet instead of a pin)
  • Scissors and plastic canvas needle
  • Craft glue (we used Jewel Glue by Delta)

Pattern

Instructions:

  1. Cut the canvas according to graphs: Pinwheel — cut one 12 x 12 holes, Handle: cut one 2 x 18 holes.

  2. Double the 1/8” ribbon for all stitches, except as indicated. Please note direction of continental stitches on graphs.

  3. Work front of pinwheel in continental stitches in colors indicated, overcasting top and side edges on that half of pinwheel as you work with red.

  4. Turn to back of canvas, and work continental stitches with 032 Pearl; overcast matching edges with pearl.

  5. Turn pinwheel to front of canvas, and using one strand of 032 Pearl, tack ends of pinwheel marked (*) to center of pinwheel at (•).

  6. Work handle of pinwheel in 051HL Sapphire continental stitches. Overcast edges of handle with 051HL Sapphire. Using one strand of 051HL, slide needle under sapphire stitches at back of center of pinwheel and tack to top of handle at (•) — or glue back of center of pinwheel to top of handle.

  7. Glue 3/4” pinback to back of handle; or glue 1/2” magnetic strip to back of handle for fridgie.
