Materials:

  • 20 Gauge wire, at least a couple of feet
  • 24 Gauge wire, half a spool or so
  • Egg shaped bead
  • Jewelry tools
  • I used this tiny ceramic heart as a reference for the shape

Instructions:

  1. For the top of the pendant, I used a wooden skewer to wrap the 20 gauge wire and wrapped it all the way around two times. I left myself an inch of wire to wrap below the loops.

  2. I made a frame for my shape and a cross piece that is part of the frame wire. If you have a longer piece, make all your cross pieces with part of the frame wire.

  3. I made another cross piece with the 20 gauge wire and began wrapping the 24 gauge wire around the middle.

  4. I continued wrapping the 24 gauge wire in every direction with the goal of filling in the shape. I guided the heart into a concave shape as I went along.

  5. As the shape filled up, I began to think about where to place my egg bead. I used shorter wires when the gaps were filling and used pliers to pull the wire through. To close larger gaps, I wove in and out of smaller holes and across the gaps. It’s a good idea to stop now and then and crimp the “sticky outy” wire loops with pliers. It’s also important to make sure that no sharp ends stick out anywhere.

  6. I attached my egg bead just before I was finished wrapping. It’s finished when you look at it and think “yes, that’s it!” The very last inch of wire was coiled into a spiral.
