Crochet Star Ornament

Use this easy crochet pattern to create a star Christmas ornament in green and red. With a few skeins of yarn, you could decorate your trees exclusively with this pretty ornament.


Crochet Santa Ornament

 

 

Materials:

  • Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, 315 yds/288 m skein): small amount each in 2 colors, shown in: #9730 Autumn Red (A); #9707 Dk. Sage (B)
  • DMC Gold Glitter thread (optional)
  • One size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge
  • Yarn needle

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Star measures approximately 4"/10 cm across

 

GAUGE

Gauge is not critical for this project.

 

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch): Begin by making a slip knot on your hook. * Wrap the yarn around the hook (yarn over) and pull up a loop, [draw the yarn through the loop on the hook to form the first chain]. Repeat from * for number of chains required. Note: The loop on the hook is not included when counting the number of chains.

 

Double Crochet (dc): Yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, [yarn over and draw through two loops on hook] twice.

 

Single Crochet (sc): Insert hook in stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

 

Slip Stitch (slip st): Insert hook in the stitch indicated, yarn over and draw through both the stitch and the loop on the hook.

 

STAR

If desired, work with a strand of Gold Glitter Thread held together with yarn.

Using A, chain 5; join with slip to form ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc in ring, join with slip to first sc—10 sc.

Round 2: * Ch 6, skip next sc, slip st in next sc; repeat from * 4 times, join with a slip st in base of beginning ch-6—five ch-6 spaces.

Round 3: Ch 1, work [3 sc, ch 5, 3 sc] in each ch- 6 space, join with slip to first sc—five ch-5 corner spaces. 

Fasten off A; join B with a sc in any ch-5 corner space (counts as first sc).

Round 4: Work [2 sc ch 3, 3 sc] in same space as joining, * sc in next 2 sc, sc in center of ring (see photo), skip 2 sc, + sc in next 2 sc, work [3 sc, ch 3, 3 sc) in next corner space; repeat from * 4 times, end last repeat at +, sc in  last two sc, join with a slip st to first sc. 

Fasten off.

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
