Fabric Stocking Ornament

Materials:

  • Fabric - wool, felt or most any kind.
  • Embroidery floss, color of your choice
  • Batting or fiber fill for stocking top
  • Jingle bell
  • Pattern

Steps:

1.  Fabric Stocking Picture1

Print pattern. Layout on the fabric you choose. Cut two.

2. Fabric Stocking Picture2
Cut four pieces of coordinating fabric, as shown, approximately 3/4" by 2", trimming as needed. Pin in place.

3. Fabric Stocking Picture3
Start sewing the toe of the stocking first and then stuff with batting or fiber fill. Recommend blanket stitch.

4. Fabric Stocking Picture4
Continue sewing the rest of the stocking, leaving the top open for filling the remainder of the ornament. Fill as desired and close by whip stitching the top as indicated.

5. Fabric Stocking Picture5
Cut a piece of batting or other fabric for the top of the stocking to approximately 6" by 2 1/2", turning under the bottom edge 1/4".

6. Fabric Stocking Picture6
Fold over the top of the stocking and the sides. Pin and sew in place. Be sure to sew the top portion to the stocking so it will not come off. Leave enough embroidery floss to loop as the hanger.

7. Fabric Stocking Picture7
Sew on the jingle bell and you're done.

Good Morning, What size is the above ornament stocking supposed to be? The pattern comes up at 129% on my computer which makes it look BIG! Big enough to be a stocking to hang on my small fireplace not my small-fireplace-flanking-3-ft.-trees!! (And, while you're thinking why didn't I just print it to see myself - I can't - I'm almost out of ink after printing so many other pages of things I liked before I came to this one!) So, could you tell me what size I should put my percentage at so I can make these as ornament stockings for my trees and as stockings for my fireplace (2 - 3 ft'ers in little box stands,1 - 6 ft'er slimline and 1 - 4 foot high stand-alone fireplace)? I think this would work the best of all the crafts to make for my grandchildren. I have scrap material that would be perfect! And, my girlfriend lent me her sewing machine to learn to sew on it and if I don't, I do know how to handsew so that won't be a problem with this craft. Thank you for so many wonderful ideas! I have been on your website for about 6 hours now looking at crafts!! There's always one more thing I want to look at or to see or to learn how to make but I think I finally found the one I want to make for the little ones!! Please let me know what you think of my question. I am new at all this crafting and I'm trying to do a lot of different things at once which probably isn't the smartest thing to be doing! Debbie
