Crochet Christmas Wreath Ornament

Materials:

  • Knitting worsted yarn, (or 100% cotton worsted, or satiny yarn of any type)
  • Crochet Hook, size 6MM, (USJ 10)
  • Assorted beads
  • White chenille stem (pipecleaner)
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick, or white glue

Instructions:

  1. Shape a chenille stem into any size oval. Use the entire chenille stem to make a large oval, or even link two together to make a large window hanging.

  2. Attach the yarn onto the chenille stem any way you wish. You can knot it on, or slip stitch it on.

  3. Cover the entire shape with the following sequence, pushing the stitches together to fit on as many as needed: Make 3 single crochet around the stem. Treating the stem as you would a previous row of stitches.  Chain 3, make 3 single crochet. Repeat all around the shape. Slip stitch to join.

  4.  Tie on red velvet ribbon into a loop to form a hanger. Sparingly spot glue onto the top of the oval with hot glue.

  5.  Make a bow with as many loops as you would like, or make several bows, and attach them sparingly with hot glue.

  6.  Either sew, or attach with tiny dots of hot glue, (applied directly to the bead, not the yarn).

Voila! A lovely Christmas Ornament, useful for the tree, in a window, on a gift, or in a Christmas Card!

I made this a few years ago and gave them for gifts. I needed to make this child safe. I purchased beads with holes in them that was large enough for the yarn to pass thru. I strung on the amount of beads that I would need for the project before I started crocheting. Push all the beads down the yarn string as you crochet. When your ready to add a bead pull it up in place and continue to crochet. Thanks for the pattern it was simple and fun to do.

I was disappointed to learn that the beads are just hot glued on. The photo makes it appear that they were actually sewn or crocheted onto the yarn. I'd love to see some that show how to sew or crochet the beads onto the yarn; rather than hot glue them on the surface.

I made these last year but instead of the beads i glued a family picture to the back of it so when you look thro the front the picture showed throw and gave them a gifts to my family. They loved them so much that thay asked for them instead of present. I also found yarn that was colored with green, red and white that made a great pattern.

I have made these in the past but I used the plastic rings you have on the tops of milk, juice and other items to crochet around.
