Homemade Christmas ornaments have never looked this cool. Round up some old jewelry pieces and embellishments to create a Costume Jewelry Ornament from Tiffany Windsor that will surely stand out on your tree. This is a great excuse to upcycle old jewelry you no longer wear or want.

Costume Jewelry Ornament

Materials:

  • Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Styrofoam ball – size of your choice for ornament or topiary tree
  • Acrylic paint – color of your choice for painting ball
  • Paint brush
  • Skewer
  • Jar (select size to hold ball on the top rim while you are decorating)
  • Assorted jewelry pieces and embellishments
  • Jewelry cutters (to cut off findings)
  • Ribbon – for looped bow
  • Wire – 30 gauge coated (to bind off looped bow)

Instructions:

  1. Insert skewer into bottom of ball. This will help to hold it while you paint.

  2. Paint ball with acrylic paint. Set skewer into jar to hold ball while drying. Set aside to dry.

  3. Cut off any jewelry findings so that the pieces will glue flat to the ball. Select small, medium and large pieces so that you can cover the entire ball.

  4. In this gluing technique, the hot glue will hold the pieces right away and the Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue will hold them forever. Hot glue is affected by heat and cold so this is the best way to speed up the gluing/holding process on this type of project.

  5. Apply a generous dab of Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue to the center back of your jewelry piece then apply hot glue around the dab. Press in place on your ball and hold until the hot glue secures it to the ball. Continue to decorate the entire ball with this double glue technique. Place the decorated ball into the top of the jar.

  6. Tie looped bow and secure with wire. Cut wire ends to approximately 1/2″. Apply Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue to the wire and insert into the top of the ball. Leave ball on top of jar to dry overnight. If needed, use a hairdryer to melt any hot glue strings.
