Birdseed Ornaments

By:

Kids and adults of all ages will love making these Birdseed Ornaments.  Great for hanging on your tree to help feed the winter birds, these lovely handmade ornaments are a fun and easy project to do over winter break or during a cold blustery weekend.  You can make these ornaments in any shape you'd like!  Have fun playing with your cookie cutters and get the whole family involved in creating these fun outdoor decorations that could really be out on display all winter long...or until they've been devoured!

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. To make these beautiful ornaments for the outdoors, I mixed together 1 cup flour, 2/3 cup water, 4  T corn syrup and 5 cups of birdseed then pressed it between waxed paper and put cookie cutter in it.  I pushed pieces of straws through them to create holes.  When it was hard, 6 hours later, I took them apart.

  2. I dyed twine in Rit Dye to create colorful non-toxic decorative ways to hang the ornaments in the tree.  I used the jar method for the dyeing and drying.

  3. It worked great to tie through the holes and add colorful elements to the ornaments.  I really love the way they look in the woods.
