Ribbon Organization

Ribbon Organization by Jeanie Cheeseman, Columbus. OH

I work a lot with narrow satin ribbon of all colors. The individual spools can be annoying to keep up with when your hands are already full with the craft you are working on. To organize these spools, I take a regular wire hanger, untwist the top, string each spool (grouped by color) through the hole on the wire and re-twist the wire top. Ribbon ends should roll off the spools in the same direction and be attached to the spools with a straight pin or tape. It is convenient to use and can easily be stored by the hook top of the hanger.

Pantyhose Ribbon Holder by Shara George Lynnwood, Washington

I use a lot of ribbon in most of my crafts and we all know how difficult it can be to keep all that ribbon on the spool. One of the neatest things I've discovered for my ribbon is to cut off the legs of pantyhose and put the spools in them. One will hold as many as you like and they will not unwind as the hose snugs up against the spool. You can see the color you want and reach down the inside of the hose and get it very easy. IT'S GREAT!

I use alot of various width ribbon and although on a dowel looks nice it can be a real pain to get to a center spool to remove the spool for travel or replacement. lengths of rain gutter can work well, but my favorite is old wire book shelves with v shaped shelves. They hold any size spool and ribbon can be removed easily or unwound without removing.

My thoughts on organizing ribbon is to get yourself a spring loaded curtain rod and load your ribbon on it, all facing the same direction and you can use as many as you like . Maybe one for reds and one for yellows and one for pinks and maybe one for seasonal. You can put them in a closet or on a window on top of your curtains or shades.. You can use your imagination the possibilities are endless.. Think about it.. Have FUN, FUN, FUN... From Debbi in Lodi, NJ

I USE A DOWEL WITH CORKS ON THE ENDS...works for me.

if your room has windows, you can use a spring rod to organize your ribbon. It usually the right size for the rolls to fit onto. But if you have the some that won't fit, I will snip the hole with scissors large enough for it to fit.

This is such a great ideal. I have loads of all kinds of ribbons. Thanks. Extra thought; for skinny bibbon, use a hook to reach through the stocking and pull the ribbon out. Notice I have not tried this yet, but it should work.
