Wide Neck Tie Top

This flattering wide-neck shirt from Premier Yarns features a fun tie detail at the neck and is easy to assemble. Made in colorful batik yarn, this short-sleeve knit shirt is great year round. 

Wide Neck Tie Top


Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL
Finished Measurements: 28 (32, 36, 40, 44)″

Materials:

  • Yarn: 3 (4, 5,6, 7) balls Coral Batik in #204 Tutti Frutti (100% Microfiber; 284 yards/260 meters; 3½ ounces/100 grams)
  • Knitting needles: US 7 (4.5mm) straight and 16" circular needles
  • Split-ring stitch markers
  • large-eye yarn needle

Gauge: 23½ sts and 30 rows = 4″ in St st. Use any needle size necessary to obtain the specified gauge.

Abbreviations
beg – beginning
inc – increase
mm – millimeters
rep – repeat
RS – right side
St st – stockinette stitch (knit right side rows, purl wrong
side rows)
st(s) – stitch(es)
WS – wrong side

Instructions:

FRONT
Cast on 84 (96, 108, 120, 132) sts. Work 6 rows in Garter st (knit every row).
Beg with a knit row (RS) work even in St st until piece meas 13½".

Sleeve Shaping
Row 1: Inc 1 st at each end of work - 86 (98, 110, 122, 134) sts.
Rows 2-4: Work even in St st.
Rows 5-12: Rep Rows 1-4 twice - 90 (102, 114, 126, 138) sts.
Rows 13 and 14: Rep Row 1 twice - 92 (104, 116, 128, 140) sts.
Row 15: Knit.
Rows 16 and 17: Rep Row 1 twice - 94 (106, 118, 130, 142) sts.
Rows 18-21: Cast on 2 sts at the beg of the next 4 rows - 102 (114, 126, 138, 150) sts.
Rows 22-25: Cast on 5 sts at the beg of the next 4 rows - 122 (134, 146, 158, 170) sts.
Work even for 2¾ (3, 3½, 3¾, 4)", ending with a WS row.

Neck Shaping
Row 1 (RS): K 47 (52, 57, 62, 67) sts, join a second ball of yarn, bind off center 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts, knit across – 47 (52, 57, 62, 67) sts on each side. Work both sides of the neck at the same time using separate balls of yarn. Bind off 3 sts at each neck edge on the next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at neck edge on the following 2 rows – 42 (47, 52, 57, 62) sts. With RS facing, place a marker in last bound off st on left front neck edge.

Tie-Neck Top
Dec 1 st at each neck edge on the next 4 rows, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row twice, work 5 rows even then dec 1 st at each neck edge once – 35 (40, 45, 50, 55) sts.
Work even until piece measures 24½ (24¾, 25¼, 25¾, 26)" from beg. Bind off all sts.

BACK
Work same as Front, eliminating marker placement.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Armhole Band: Pick up 72 (75, 79, 82, 86) sts evenly around armhole edge. Work in Garter stitch for 4 rounds.
Neck Band: Using circular needle, cast on 30 sts (tie). Beg at marker, pick up 165 (169, 173, 177, 181) sts evenly around neck edge; cast on 30 sts for second tie – 225 (229, 233, 237, 241) sts.
Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Bind off all sts.
Sew side seams.
Weave in loose ends.
