Warm, Nubby Cape with Buttons

This fun, textured cape is easily thrown over an outfit with chunky buttons to take it off and on.

Warm Nubby Cape witb Buttons

Stitch: Stockinette

Size: One size fits size 8-16
Finished Size=30” X 60”

Materials:

  • Yarn: Red Heart Light and Lofty Yarn (6) Skeins
  • 28” knitting board
  • Knit hook
  • Crochet hook
  • (2) 1” buttons
  • Large sewing needle


Gauge 3 Sts=1” 2.5 Rows=1”

Instructions:

  1. Cast On 84 stitches (full board)
     
  2. Knit 18 rows in Stockinette Stitch
     
  3. Buttonhole: Start 1st Button Hole-Lift stitch #5 and place on Needle 6, both boards.
     
  4. Weave next row, as usual, hook over. Lift 2 over 1 on buttonhole needles.
     
  5. Do nothing to the needle with the single loop.
     
  6. Continue with next row and weave and hook as usual.
     
  7. Continue with Stockinette Stitch.
     
  8. Repeat the Buttonhole on Row 38.
     
  9. Continue with Stockinette Stitch for a total of 120 Rows or until piece is approximately 60” long. Bind off loosely (one thru one).
     
  10. Bind off at cast on stitches loosely.
     
  11. Fold cape over and sew on Buttons at 6” and 13”, matching the buttonholes.
     
  12. Cape may be worn with neckline open or folded over for a collar effect.
