Knit Punnet of Strawberries

This knitting pattern from Tonya Staab of Currently Crafting is such a fun project for spring. Give as little ornaments, use as table decoration or knit as an addition to a child's play kitchen. These little strawberries would make great embellishments for gift bags or even totes.
 

Materials:

• red yarn - double up if thin. I used Red Heart Super Saver 4ply doubled for this pattern
• 5.0 0mm double pointed needles
• Poly-fil
• Green felt
• Green embroidery thread
• Tapestry and embroidery needles
• Punnet

Instructions:

Cast on 6 stitches.



Separate between 3 needles - 2 stitches per needle.



1st row - knit in the round
2nd row - increase 1 stitch at the beginning of each needle



Repeat 1st two rows until there are 8 stitches on each needle.
Knit one more round. Leave a long end and cut the yarn.
Using a tapestry needle stitch together the wrong side of the cast on end so there is no hole.
Using the tapestry needle, gather up all remaining stitches on the needles, don't pull too tightly yet.
If the strawberry is wrong-side out, turn it the right way.
Stuff the strawberry with Poly-fil.
Gather up the end tightly and put a few stitches in the top to hold it together.



Cut a piece of green felt to resemble the top of a strawberry. It doesn't have to be even and all strawberries can look a little different.
Using the embroidery needle and thread stitch a large cross in the center of the leaf to attach it to the top of the strawberry.
