Country Sunrise Pillows

Welcome to Our Home: Knit and Crochet Ideas from Red HeartYour living room or bedroom are great places to show off these Country Sunrise Pillows.  This easy pattern features button closures for easy washability and a nice tailored touch.  A bright yarn helps these pillows give any room in your home a nice punch of color.

Country Sunrise Pillows

Materials:

  • 1 skein Red Heart® Super Saver® yarn in Chili
  • 6mm [US F-10] Susan Bates® Knitting Needles
  • 16" [40.5 cm] pillow form
  • 5 buttons, ” (28 mm) diameter
  • Yarn needle

 

Gauge:  13 sts = 4" [10 cm]; 21 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Pattern st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

 

Instructions:
Pillow measures 16" [40.5cm] x 16" [40.5cm]  

  1. Cast on 52 sts.
     
  2. Knit 8 rows. 

Begin Pattern

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): K2, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
     
  2. Row 2: Purl.
     
  3. Row 3: K2, *k2tog, yo; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
     
  4. Row 4: Purl.
     
  5. Row 5: K2, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
     
  6. Rows 6-8: Knit.
     
  7. Repeat Rows 1-8 for Pattern st until piece measures 32" [81cm] from beginning, end with Row 6.
     
  8. Buttonhole Row: K7, bind off 2 sts, *knit until 7 sts have been worked, bind off 2 sts; repeat from * 3 more times, knit to end – 5 buttonholes.
     
  9. Next Row:  Knit across, casting on 2 sts above bind-off sts of previous row.
     
  10. Knit 3 rows.  
     
  11. Bind off.

Finishing

  1. Overlap buttonhole edge over cast-on edge so piece measures 16" [40.5 cm] square. Sew side edges. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.
     
  2. Weave in ends. Insert pillow form.
