Striped Sweater for ChildBy: Patons Knit a colorful striped sweater for a child with this free sweater knitting pattern. This turtle neck sweater is sure to keep any kid cozy while playing outside.
Materials:
Tension: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles.
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). STRIPE PAT (worked in stocking st): Work 6 rows of each color: B, D, A, B, C, D. These 36 rows form Stripe Pat. BACK Change to larger needles and proceed in Stripe Pat for 8½ (9¾-11½-14) ins [21.5 (25-29-35.5) cm] total length, ending on a 6th (14th-24th-4th) row of Stripe Pat. Shape raglans: Cast off 2 sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every 4th row to 47 (53-55- 59) sts, then every alt row** to 21 (21-25-25) sts. Leave sts on a st holder. FRONT Shape neck: Next row: (RS). Work 2tog. K9 (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows then on alt rows twice more AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at raglan edge on every alt row to 2 sts. SLEEVES Change to larger needles and proceed in Stripe Pat beg on the 33rd (35th-1st-9th) row of pat, inc 1 st each end of needle on 3rd and every following 4th row until there are 56 (60-64- 68) sts. Cont even, ending on a 6th (14th-24th-4th) row of Stripe Pat. Shape raglans: Cast off 2 sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every alt row to 12 (14-16- 16) sts.
