Did you know?

The poncho is a popular outerwear item that has gone in and out of style in contemporary fashion, but traditionally the article of clothing was more than just a fashion statement. The poncho originated in Native American tribes, most typically in Peru. The garment, at its most basic form, is a sheet with a hole in the center where the head went through. Some had hoods while others were made of waterproof material. Its essential purpose was for warmth and was usually made out of breathable and light material that was more convenient and comfortable for workers. Ponchos became an integral dress in Mexican culture and were usually worn by soldiers as uniforms. There are even intricate designs on ponchos that are worn by entertainers. This simple outdoor attire is more than just a fashion statement or an extra layer to keep warm with. It is an article of clothing that tells the history of a culture.

I would like to make this poncho for the 6-8 yrs size but would like it to be 21 inches finished length rather than 17.5 inches. Can you tell me how I can modify the pattern, and whether I would need additional yarn?

I'm confused when I get to this line Rep last 4 rows 10 times more. 43 (51-63-75) sts. First line says it's WS but I'm at the RS?

Hi Kristyn! I checked with our resident knitting expert, and it looks like you should be repeating the last four rows, not the last four lines of the pattern. If you just repeat the following, you should end up on the RS of the pattern: Next row: (RS). K2. K2tog. Knit to last 4 sts. Sl1. K1. psso. K2. Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows in stocking st. I hope that helps! -Editors of FaveCrafts

That Helps! Thank you so much for your quick response )

You are so welcome! Enjoy!!!

Is there another yarn I can substitute for this one. Thankyou

Hi there! I found a helpful link here that lists a ton of alternatives to the discontinued baby boucle yarn. I hope this helps! -Editors of FaveCrafts http://yarnsub.com/yarns/bernat/baby_boucle

Thank you! )

Instead of two parts, could this be knitted on circular needles?

@hbstump 7589677 This might work, but we do not have a pattern for this unfortunately. Thanks! -Kaylee, Editor of FaveCrafts.com

Where are the instructions? I registered, verified and set up a file. All I get is the picture with the description. Click on 'pattern' and it goes back to same page. URGH!! How can I include a rating when I cannot even get the instructions!!??

Hi there, the instructions for this pattern are located underneat the heading "Instructions" (just below the 8 Favorite Free Shawl and Poncho Knitting Patterns feature in the middle of the page). - Julia from FaveCrafts

Can this pattern be adapted to make a poncho for an adult?

Hi there, We don't have exact instructions to make this poncho for adults, but we do have a ton of great adult poncho patterns. Simply select Knit Sweaters from the left column of the page (click on Knitting) to see the patterns. - Julia from FaveCrafts

Are there supposed to be more instructions after the "1st row"?

there is, two more paragraphs after the first row.

Aug.18, 2013, has the current pattern been corrected ? Carol

I would love to receive the corrected pattern for this poncho. Thanks. Carolyn

I would love to receive the corrected pattern for this poncho. Thanks. Carolyn

looks really good

i believe there is at least one mistake or something missing from the directions/pattern for the poncho...between this: 1st row: (WS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row. AND Rep last row of seed st pat twice more. There may also be more that needs correcting.

Could someone convert this pattern to adult women sizes.
