Bright Stripes Poncho

This child's poncho pattern from Patons is for all skill levels and has colorful stripes and a mock turtleneck. Stay warm and look fabulous with adorable pom-pom detail on the sides.

  • Patons Astra (50 g/1.75 oz)
  • Size 4 6 8
  • Main Color MC (Variegated)
  • 2 2 3 balls
  • Contrast A (Aqua)
  • 2 2 2 balls
  • Contrast B (Lt Green)
  • 2 2 2 balls
  • Contrast C (Dk Green)
  • 2 2 2 balls
  • Knitting Needles: size 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) or size needed to obtain tension. 4 st holders.

TENSION
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

RIGHT SIDE
All Sizes: **With A, cast on 179 (185-197) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
This row forms seed st pat.
Rep 1st row once more.
3rd row: K2. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2.
4th row: Purl.
Rep last 2 rows once more. 175 (181-193) sts.
Proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). With MC, K2. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2.
2nd row: P3. Pat to last 3 sts. P3.
3rd row: K2. Sl1. K1. psso. Pat to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2.
4th row: As 2nd row.
5th and 6th rows: Rep last 2 rows once more.
7th row: With B, K2. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2.
8th row: Purl.
9th to 12th rows: Rep last 2 rows twice more.
13th to 18th rows: With MC, as 1st to 6th rows once.

Sizes 6 and 8 only: Work 1st to 6th rows of stripe pat once more. (103-115) sts.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth leaving to dry.
Neckband: Sew front seam. With RS of work facing and A, pick up and knit 16 sts from right back st holder. Pick up and knit 18 sts down right front neck edge. K10 from front right st holder. K10 from front left st holder. Pick up and knit 18 sts up left front neck edge. K16 from back st holder. 90 sts.
Beg with a purl row, work 3 ins [7.5 cm] in stocking st. Cast off. Sew Back and neckband seam, reversing seam on neckband for curl-back edge.
