Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 2 st holders.

GAUGE: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

Steps:
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK: **With smaller needles and A, cast on 62 (70-86-94-102-114-122-130-142-150) sts.
***1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing twice more.
With B, rep last 2 rows once.
With A, rep last 2 rows 3 times.***

Change to larger needles, MC and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 10 (11½-14-16-17½-18-18½-18½-18½-18½) ins [26 (29-36-41-45-46-47-47-47-47) cm], ending with a purl row.

Shape armholes: Cast off 5 (7-9-9-9-11-11-13-18-21) sts beg next 2 rows. 52 (56-68-76-84-92-100-104-106-108) sts.** Cont even until armhole measures 6 (6½-7-8-8½-9-9½-10½-11½-12½) ins [15 (17-18-21-22-23-24-27-29-32) cm], ending with a purl row. Cast off 15 (16-19-22-25-28-31-32-32-33) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 22 (24-30-32-34-36-38-40-42-42) sts on a st holder.

FRONT: Work from ** to ** as given for Back. Cont even until armhole measures 3½ (4-4-5-5-5½-5½-6-7-8) ins [9 (10-10-13-13-14-14-15-18-21) cm], ending with a purl row.

Shape neck: K20 (21-26-29-33-36-39-40-40-41). Turn (neck edge). Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows, then following alt rows to 15 (16-19-22-25-28-31-32-32-33) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Back to shoulders, ending with a purl row. Cast off.
With RS facing, slip next 12 (14-16-18-18-20-22-24-26-26) sts onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and work as for left side reversing neck shaping.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles and A, cast on 30 (34-38-46-46-50-50-50-50-50) sts.
Work from *** to *** as given for Back.
With larger needles and MC proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st at each end of 5th and every following 4th (4th-6th-6th-6th-4th-4th-4th-2nd-2nd) row to 50 (50-60-62-74-54-68-94-74-92) sts then every following 6th (6th-8th-8th-8th-6th-6th-6th-4th-4th) row to 54 (58-64-72-76-82-86-96-104-112) sts. Cont even until Sleeve measures 11¼ (13-17½-18-18-18½-18½-18½-18½-18½) ins [29 (33-45-46-46-47-47-47-47-47) cm], ending with purl row. Place marker at each end of last row.
Work 6 (10-12-12-12-14-14-18-24-28) rows more. Cast off.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with damp cloth leaving cloth to dry.

Neckband: Sew right shoulder seam. With RS facing, smaller needles and A, pick up and knit 14 (16-16-20-19-21-21-23-23-25) sts down left front neck edge. K12 (14-16-18-18-20-22-24-26-26) from front st holder. Pick up and knit 14 (16-16-20-19-21-21-23-23-25) sts up right front neck edge. K22 (24-30-32-34-36-38-40-42-42) from back st holder. 62 (70-78-90-90-98-102-110-114-118) sts.
Work 3 rows in rib pat. With B, work 2 rows, with A, work 4 rows in rib pat. Cast off in rib.
Sew left shoulder and neckband seam. Sew in sleeves, placing rows above markers to cast off sts to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.
