Easy Knit Slippers

By: Barb Rothwell

Keep your toes toasty in the winter with a pair of homemade, easy knit slippers. This pattern for knit slippers is simple and concise, and you can choose to make knee length slippers too.

Easy Knit Slippers

Instructions:
Depending on type of yarn, use either single or double strand yarn.

Cast on 22 stitches, (22 stitches are for ankle length, increase the amount of stitches according to the length you want your finished slipper) – Use needles to get your correct gauge for size; adult sizes use size 10-13, average size 10.5

1st row K10, increase 1 in next 2 stitches, K10
2nd row K 10, P1, K2,P1,K10
3rd row K11, increase 1 in next 2 stitches, K10
4th row K10, P1, K4, P1, K10
5th row K11, increase 1 in next 4 stitches, K10
6th row K10, P1, K8, P1, K10
7th row K11, increase 1 in next 2 stitches, K10
8th row (next even rows) K10, P1, K10, P1, K10 every other row
9th row (next odd rows) K32
continue until you have 30 rows**

[If you are doing knee length or have started with more than 22 stitches you will need to cast off enough stitches so that you have 32 stitches left on the needles. That means you in row 30 you will need to cast off XX amount of stitches so that you have 10 K stitches left on the needles before the first P, continue with K until you reach the end of that row. Row 31 you will need to cast off XX amount of stitches so that you have 10 K stitches left on the needles before the first P, at this point continue with Row 31 below.]

Row 31 *K1, P1, continue * till end of row; continue same for the next 29 rows, since these slippers stretch a little they work for women sizes 7-9 or men’s 6-8. Add additional K1P1 rows for larger sizes.
Row 61 cut yarn leaving 3 feet of yarn; thread darning needle, thread through stitches on needles and draw tight. Sew up; the seam of the K/P rows; sew up back seam.

I sew on leather bottoms to help with the wear of the slippers. The ones in the picture were done about 10 years ago and don’t show much wear. They are also non-wool and have been through the washer and dryer more times than I can remember.
