Lacy Violet Baby Blanket

Using a free knit baby blanket pattern like this one you can make a lacy violet baby blanket. The purple color is just beautiful and will look great in baby's room. Simply Soft Chunky yarn is used for that soft touch.


Approx. 40”/101.5cm x 42”/106.5cm


  • Caron International's Simply Soft Chunky (100% acrylic; 5oz/142g, 200yds/183m): Shown in: Lavender Blue #0002, 23oz/656g
  • One circular size 10 ½ (6.5mm) needle, 36"/91.5cm long or size to obtain gauge
  • Cable needle (cn)
  • Yarn needle
  • 13 markers (optional)


In Stockinette Stitch, 12 sts and 16 rows = 4”/10cm


6-st RC: Slip 3 sts to cn and hold in back, k3, k3 from cn

ssk: Slip 1 st knitwise, sl 1 st purlwise, k slipped sts tog through front loops.

Large Cable & Eyelet Stitch (multiple off 11 sts plus 1):

Row 1 (RS): K1, *k1 , yo, k2tog, k4, ssk, yo, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl.

Row 3: K 1, *yo, k2tog, k6, ssk, yo, k 1; rep from * to end.

Row 5: Rep Row 1.

Row 7: K1, *yo, k2tog, 6-st RC, ssk, yo, k 1; rep from * to end.

Row 8: Purl.

Rep Rows 1-8 for Large Cable & Eyelet patt.



Blanket is worked back and forth on circular needle.

Place markers (pm) between the 11-st repeats. Slip the markers for each row.



CO 133 sts.

K 4 rows (Garter st).

Est patt:

Row 1 (RS): K4, pm,*k1, yo, k2tog, k4, ssk, yo, k2, (pm), k8, pm; rep from * 5 times more, ending k1, yo, k2tog, k4, ssk yo, k2 (pm), k4.

Row 2 and all even rows: K4, purl to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 3: K4, *yo, k2tog, k6, ssk, yo, k1, k8; rep from * 5 times more, ending yo, k2tog, k6, ssk, yo, k 1, k4.

Row 5: Rep Row 1.

Row 7: K 4, *yo, k2tog, 6-st RC, ssk, yo, k 1, k 8; rep from * 5 times more, ending yo, k2tog, 6-st RC, ssk, yo, k1, k4.

Row 8: K4, purl across to last 4 sts, k4.

Rep Rows 1-8 for patt until piece measures approximately 41”/104cm, ending with Row 3.

K 4 rows (Garter st).




Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Block to measurements.

This is a beautiful blanket but the pattern doesn't give the number of skeins needed or the total yardage, only what yarn was used and the number of yards in one skein.

How many balls of yarn are needed for the Lacy violet baby blanket, it doesn't say?
