Afghan with Sleeves Knitting Pattern

This free afghan knitting pattern from Bernat Yarns creates a "wrap-ghan," an afghan with sleeves. Now you can make your own sleeved afghan to stay warm and keep your hands free.

Materials:

• Yarn: Bernat® Softee Chunky (100 g/3.5 oz) (164 m/180 yds)Child- 12 balls Adult- 14 balls

OR Bernat® Chunky (Big Ball) (400 g/14 oz) (587 m/642 yds)
Child Size: 1890 yds/1740 m
Adult Size: 2290 yds/2100 m

• Knitting Needles: Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) circular knitting needle 36 ins [90 cm] long, Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
   

Gauge: 15 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

To fit chest/bust measurements
Child Size: 24-32 ins [ 61-81.5 cm ]
Adult Size: 34-56 ins [ 86.5-142 cm ]
 

Instructions:

The instructions are written for Child size. If changes are necessary for Adult size the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BODY
Cast on 165 (217) sts. Do not join.
Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: *P1. K1. Rep from * to last st. P1.
Rep last 2 rows for pat until work from beg measures 33½ (43½) ins [85 (110.5) cm], ending with a WS row.

Divide for armholes: Next row: (RS). Pat across 43 (56) sts. Cast off 11 (15) sts. Pat across 57 (75) sts. Cast off 11 (15) sts. Pat across 43 (56) sts.
Right Back: Cont on last 43 (56) sts until armhole measures 8½ (10½) ins [21.5 (26.5) cm], ending with a WS row.
Shape shoulder: Next row: Cast off 13 (18) sts. Pat to end of row.

Collar: Cont on rem 30 (38) sts until work from last cast off edge measures 3 (4½) ins [7.5 (11.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Cast off in pat.

Front: With WS facing, join yarn to center 57 (75) sts. Cont even in pat until armhole measures 8½ (10½) ins [21.5 (26.5) cm], ending with a WS row.
Shape shoulders: Cast off 13 (18) sts beg next 2 rows. 31 (39) sts rem.

Collar: Cont in pat until work from last cast off edge measures 3 (4½) ins [7.5 (11.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Cast off in pat.

Left Back: With WS facing, join yarn to rem 43 (56) sts. Cont even in pat until armhole measures 8½ (10½) ins [21.5 (26.5) cm], ending with a RS row.

Shape shoulder: Next row: Cast off 13 (18) sts. Pat to end of row.
Collar: Cont on rem 30 (38) sts until work from last cast off edge measures 3 (4½) ins [7.5 (11.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Cast off in pat.

SLEEVES
With pair of needles, cast on 41 (53) sts.
Work 6 rows in pat as given for Body.
Inc 1 st each end of next row and following 4th (6th) rows until there are 63 (79) sts, taking inc sts into pat.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 12½ (17½) ins [32 (44.5) cm], ending with a WS row. Place markers at each end of last row.
Work 8 (10) rows even in pat. Cast off in pat.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder and collar seams. Sew in sleeves placing rows above markers along cast off edges of Body. Sew sleeve seams.
