Teapot Cozy

I'm a little teapot short and stout, crochet me all over and see how I turned out! This free easy crochet pattern will make your teapot look charming. Just add some crumpets and your tea party will be complete.

 

Materials:

  • Bernat® Super Value
    • (197 g/7 oz; 389 m/426 yds)
    • Contrast B (53201 Aqua) 1 ball
    • Contrast A (53521 Rustic) 1 ball
  • Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge:

15 sc and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Steps:

Note: Tea Cosy is worked sideways.
Make 2 pieces alike.
With A, ch 24 loosely.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 23 sc.
**2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Draw up a loop in next st. Ch 4. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook – Popcorn st made. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sts. *Popcorn st. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last 2 sts. 1 sc in each of last 2 sts. Turn.
5th row: As 3rd row.
Rep 2nd to 4th rows once more.
Break A. Join B.
Work 5th row once more.
Work 2nd to 5th rows once, then 2nd to 4th rows once. Break B. Join A.**
Work from ** to ** once more. Do not break B at end of last rep.
Next row: With B, ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Top: With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to top edge. Ch 1. Work 18 sc across each piece to join them. Join with sl st to first sc. 36 sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of rnd. Join with sl st to first sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. *Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Rep last 2 rnds once more. 9 sc rem. Fasten off, leaving a long end. Weave end through rem 9 sts tightly and fasten securely.
Pom-pom (make 1 with A and 2 with B).
Wind yarn around 3 fingers approx 60 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape.
Sew side seams, leaving openings for handle and spout. Attach pom-poms to top of Cosy.
