Free Crochet Pattern Tablecloth

Using this free crochet pattern from DMC Threads you can decorate any table in the house. This red color is bright and will put a smile on your face. This pattern is for intermediate crocheters.

Materials:

  • DMC Cébélia Crochet Cotton (Art 167GA), size 10, color # 666 (red) – 2 balls (284yards/ball)
  • Crochet hook: Size 6
  • 32 ¾” x 36 ¾” piece of red (or your color choice) linen
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing machine with zig zag stitch
  • Red sewing thread
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Pressing cloth

Gauge: 8 rows = 2”, 16 sts = 2”

Abbreviations:

beg = Begin(ning)
ch = Chain
dc = Double Crochet
inc = Increase
rep = Repeat
rev sc = Reverse single crochet
rnd = Round
sc = Single Crochet
sk = skip
sl st = Slip Stitch
st = Stitch

Special stitch:

Reverse Single Crochet:
Sc in back loop only of the next st in the previous rnd. This stitch produces a raised ridge which mimics the veins of a natural leaf.

Instructions:

Leaf:
Make 144
Ch 12.
Rnd 1: Sc in second loop from hook and in next
9 chs, 3 sc in last ch, working in back loop of each ch, 8 rev sc. Turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in back lp of each st, 9 rev sc, sk 1 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk next sc,
working down other side of Rnd 1, 9 rev sc.
Turn.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, 9 rev sc; sk next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk next sc, 8 rev sc. Turn.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, 9 rev sc, sk next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk next sc, 9 rev sc. Turn.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, 10 rev sc, sk next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk next sc, 8 rev sc. Turn.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, 9 rev sc, sk next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk next sc, 9 rev sc. Turn.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, 9 rev sc, sk next sc, rev sc in next sc, fasten off.
Joining the Leaves:
Make 4 rows of 12 leaves each.
Hold two leaves with right sides together.
Sl st through the last rev sc of Rnd 6 and the first rev sc of Rnd 7 at the same time, ch 1, sc in same st as sl st. Fasten off.
Continue adding one leaf at a time for a row of 12 leaves.
Repeat to make three more rows of 12 leaves.
Border:
Rnd 1: Working from right to left, join with sl st in the last rev sc of Rnd 7 of 4th leaf in first row of joined l2 leaves; ch 1, sc same st, ch 8, sl st in 4h ch from hook (picot made), ch 9, sc in 4th t rev sc of Rnd 6 of the leaf, ch 2, sc in 4th rev sc of Rnd 7 of next leaf, ch 14, sl st in 4th ch from hook (picot made), ch 3, sc in last rev sc of next leaf, *ch 8, sl st in 4th ch from hook (picot made), ch 9, sc in 4th rev sc of rnd 6, ch 2, sc in
4th rev of next leaf, ch 14, sl st in 4th ch 4 from hook (picot made), ch 3, sc in last rev sc in rnd 7 or next leaf, repeat from * until last leaf in row is joined. Linen Tablecloth:
Zig zag the edges of the linen piece.
Fold under a ¾” hem, mitering the corners.
Stitch the hem and iron with a damp press cloth
Pin the border to the tablecloth. Over lap the ends ¼”.
Take care to align the top of the border with the line of stitching for the hem,
Using a narrow zig zag stitch, attach the border.
