Ideal for girls going back to school or doing their homework. This girl's pencil cube is sure to hold any pens or pencils and make it fun to do schoolwork.

Materials:

  • STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam:
    • Cube, 5"
  • Decorative papers, 12" x 12" sheets, several coordinating patterns
  • Scalloped paper trim, 21" length
  • Metal grommet refills, 3/8", three or more
  • Sharp pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paper trimmer or scissors
  • Craft knife with sharp blade
  • Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
  • Thick, white craft glue

Steps:

  1. Use trimmer to cut six 5-1/8" squares from a variety of papers.

  2. Spread thin, even coat of glue onto one side of foam cube. Position paper square over glued foam, flush with one side and top edge; smooth paper with fingers.

  3. Use craft knife to trim excess paper at side and bottom edges. Repeat to cover all sides of cube. Glue scalloped paper trim around top edges of cube.

  4. To create pencil holes, use tip of craft knife to make three or more tiny cuts through paper at top of cube in desired locations.

  5. Insert sharp pencil into first hole and push 2" straight down into foam; rock pencil around slightly to enlarge hole just a bit. Push grommet into top of hole until it rests against cube. Repeat to create additional pencil holes.
