Repurpose a children's book to make the Books in Silhouette wall art and decor to hang in your child's room or your study. This whimsical framed wall art from Mark Montano and Krylon is a charming, nostalgic look at literature.

Books in Silhouette

Materials:

  • Krylon® Fusion for Plastic® (#2331)
  • Dark paper that contrasts the spray paint (to mat your project)
  • Frame
  • Elmer’s Glue Stick
  • Childrens’ book with nice images (I used illustrations from a coy of Mother Goose)
  • Copy machine
  • Scissors
  • X-Acto knife

Instructions:

  1. Make a black and white copy of the image you want to turn in to a silhouette.

  2. Carefully cut out the copy with scissors and your craft knife, making sure to get as much detail as you possibly can.

  3. Lightly spray paint the images with Krylon spray paint. You will need to apply several coats. Be patient and let the coats dry in between coats.

  4. Cut your dark background paper to fit inside your frame.

  5. Dab the printed side (not the painted side) of the silhouette with your glue stick and place your image on your dark background.

Tip: Remember that strong outline is the key to having an interesting silhouette. Look for recognizable shapes or strong profiles.
