Sliding Knot Pendant

Using a sliding knot instead of a clasp has been a big hit. Round waxed cotton cord works the best although some people say the Greek Leather cording works just as well for this necklace from The Bead Studio.

Materials:

• 1 yard Round Cord We used waxed cotton but any round cord will work
• 1 Pendant
• Straw (The straw needs to have a hole slightly bigger then the diameter of the cord)
• Pliers
• Scissors

Steps:

1. Overlap each end of the cord so that when the cord forms a circle half the circle is composed of two pieces of cord and the other half is composed of only one piece of cord.
   
   
    
2. Firmly grab a section of the cord that is doubled up. Make sure the end piece is on the bottom. Place the straw on top of the full piece of cord.
   
   
    
3. Wrap the bottom piece of cord over the full piece of cord and the straw three times, make sure too make sure the cord stays tight each time you wrap it. These loops need to be working towards the center of the double wrapped center of the circle.
   
   
    
4. Wrap the free end of cord behind the full piece on more time and insert the tip of the cord into the straw. Pull the straw through knot and the end of the cord should follow. The end of cord should be heading away from the center of the circle.
   
   
    
5. Using your fingers gently push the each loop of the knot in the direction of the end of cord while gently pulling on the end piece. Give a strong pull with the pliers. Once the knot is tight. cut of the excess string.
   
   
    
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 on the other half of the circle.
   
   
    
7. Now that your sliding knots are complete we need to attach the pendant. Find the center of the circle between both knots on the single strand side. Push the center through the hole of the pendant. Once you have pushed about two inches of cord through the hole separate the cord and bring the opposite side of the circle over the pendant and through the loop. Pull the cord all the way through the loop you just created and pull tight.
   
   
    
8. That's it! You can now slide your knots along the cord to make the necklace either longer or shorter. Just be careful not to slide the knots right up against each other. That will not allow you enough cord to move the knots apart.
