Memory Wire Hoop Earrings

We had so many requests for big hoops that we could not find any big enough to satisfy our customers' needs. When a customer asked us to make a pair from wire, we found it challenging to keep the hoop shape with fine wire and they looked awful...so, with a little experimentation, we found that Memory wire worked great, from The Bead Studio!

  • 2 complete loops bracelet memory wire
  • 2 strands 4mm firepolish beads
  • 4 6mm focal beads
  • 2 8mm focal beads
  • 2 4mm jumprings
  • 1 pair earwires
  • Memory wire cutter
  • Round nose pliers
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Rubber earring backs

  1. Place a rubber earring back on one end of the memory wire loop. (This allows you to change the design easily before permanently looping the wire.)

  2. Place the beads onto the wire as desired. We strung 17-4mm, 1-6mm, 2-4mm, 1-8mm and repeated the design up the other side; make sure to leave 3/8in on each for the loop.

  3. Using round nose pliers, make your first loop at open end of memory wire. (You may need to trim the other end with the memory wire cutter so that it is 3/8in.) Remove the rubber earring back and make the other loop. Be sure to direct the loop to the side of the wire, as you will need to feed the jumpring through both loops to join.

  4. Use the chain nose pliers to open the jumpring gently to the side. Feed through the two loops on the wire hoop and close the jumpring.

  5. Add the earwire to the jumpring and enjoy!

I made these same earrings last summer and donated them to the Maine Lighthouse Museum as a fund raiser. Also, if you take scrap pieces of the memory wire, they too can be turned into earrings, made some for my niece last year and the women she worked with flipped over them and she had me make some more so she could give them as gifts. You can do a lot more with memory wire than just make bracelets, you just have to put your thinking cap on! It was fun making all the earrings.
