Flighty Furniture Caster Pendant

By:

Create a necklace out of those old furniture casters. From this Flighty Furniture Caster Pendant tutorial from Melony Bradley you can learn how to make a pendant. Your friends will ask you which boutique sells your pretty pendant. Imagine their surprise when you tell them you pulled part of it out from under the couch. You'll have a blast creating this DIY necklace craft from scratch. Because you'll invest so much work into it, you'll be extra proud of your creation when it's through.

Materials:

  • New or used furniture casters
  • Jacquard Neopaque paints
  • Bird mold
  • Cernit clay
  • Craft knife
  • Brush
  • Jump Rings
  • Necklace chain
  • Sanding block
  • StazOn ink
  • Oven

Instructions:

  1. Use Neopaque paints from Jacquard to paint the caster black. Paint a 1 1/2 circle black, waxed it, and then paint it white. Using a sanding block, remove some of the white paint for a distressed look.

  2. Use cernit clay and bird mold to create swallow. If you are unfamiliar with Cernit Clay, it is distributed by Jacquard products and is perfect for making both sophisticated and whimsical arts and crafts projects, including: miniatures, dolls, buttons, beads, jewelry, and for adding sculptural elements to any project.

  3. Use an acrylic block to make sure the clay is pushed all the way into the mold. Then use a plain craft knife to cut away portions of the clay.

  4. Bake in an oven on a clay dedicated sheet at 275 degrees, about 15 minutes for every 1/4" of thickness.

  5. Drill holes at the top and the bottom of the caster, insert really large (like 18mm) silver jump rings and glue the circle and bird to the center.

  6. You can stamp something in black StazOn and add a few beads and gem stones.
