The Joy of Tea and Knitting Card

Retirement is a great time to find enjoyment in the things you love, and with this Joy of Tea and Knitting Card, you can send your friend or colleague well wishes on the next phase of their life.  This sweet DIY greeting card is embellished with a cute matchstick knitting adornment that any crafty lady is sure to love.

The Joy of Tea and Knitting

  • Pattern of teapot
  • Light green marbled cardstock sized 8.2” x 5.6”
  • Pink cardstock with white polka dots
  • Matches
  • Light green wool
  • Pink and blue square grid Washi tape
  • Small flat-sided dark pink rhinestone beads
  • Purple scrapbook letter stickers
  • Two purple scrapbook photo corner stickers
  • One small paper heart scrapbook embellishment
  • One sheet of dark green sugar paper
  • Craft glue
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors

  1. Score the 8.2” x 5.6” green marbled cardstock length-wise to create a card sized 5.6” x 4.1”.
  2. Using two matches as knitting needles, cast on 10 stitches onto the matches. Trim the extra tail of wool that might be left over from casting on to about 1 inch long.
  3. Using knit stitch, knit approximately 8 rows, and then start knitting the ninth row, but do not finish knitting it. Trim the wool, leaving a tail of approximately 2 inches.

  4. Trace and cut the teapot from the pink cardstock with white polka dots.
  5. With the fold at the top, glue the teapot to the front of the card.
  6. Glue the knitting needles and knit work to the front of the card. Tuck in the tails and glue the knit work in place over the tails.

  7. Add a strip of Washi tape to the top of the card, and use the scrapbook letters to spell Good-Bye over the Washi tape.
  8. Add the finishing touches to the front of the card by adding the scrapbook embellishment to the teapot, and glue a few small flat-sided rhinestone beads onto the letters.
  9. Print the following onto the green sugar paper, cut it to size and glue it to the inside of the card:

“Happy days are here at last.
The days of 9 to 5 are past.
I've worked all my life and paid my dues,
Now I'll do just what I choose.”
