SPIDER!

Spiders give me the creeps, but this one doesn't have to. A harmless creature creates a great Halloween decoration. In four steps you can save money and make your craft one you can use every year. This project made our Top 20 Halloween Crafts for Kids list -- check out the rest!

Materials:

• STYROFOAM Brand Foam:
  • Cone, 6"
• Two oval wiggle eyes, 5/8" long
• Black acrylic paint
• White craft foam (or felt) scraps
• Black elastic cord, 18" length
• Four thick black chenille stems
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Medium flat paintbrush
• Disposable palette
• Water basin
• Paper towels
• Scissors
• Wire cutters
• Thick, white craft glue

Steps:

1. Use pencil point to poke small hole in tip of cone. Paint cone black; let dry.
    
2. Cut small, wedge-shaped eyebrows and u-shaped mouth from craft foam. Using photo as guide, glue features to face.
    
3. Use wire cutters to cut chenille stems in half. Glue and push four stems (legs) into each lower edge of body. Bend legs at "knees" and "ankles" as shown.
    
4. Knot one end of elastic cord. Glue knot into hole in top of head; let dry. Bounce spider up and down on cord to make him jump.
