Vintage Rules Bookmarks

By:

Learn how to make a bookmark using old materials from around your house. This Vintage Rules Bookmark from Melony Bradley lets you make a DIY bookmark that has a retro feel to it. You'll love how scholarly this DIY bookmark looks thanks to the ruler. Don't worry though, this bookmark also retains some delicacy from the clay flower perched on top of the ruler. It's an all-around killer design as far as bookmarks go. You'll want to dive into a new read once your finish this DIY project.

Materials:

  • Old rulers
  • Lumiere paints by Jacquard Products
  • Neopaque colors like White and Magenta by Jacquard
  • Cernit clay by Jacquard
  • Flower molds
  • Hand saw
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Mold and bake clay flowers. Give them a couple-three coats of the Lumiere and Neopaque paint. Then use white and metallic silver to give the molded roses interest and depth. Don't forget the back. You want your rose to have that professional touch to them.

  2. Cutting the rulers is easy, you just need a hand saw (you may also want to wear safety gloves) and a cutting surface to protect your working surface from the obvious. Cut rulers to 6" in lenth, which gives you two per 12" ruler or more from yard stick lengths.

  3. Gluing the roses to the rulers is rather easy, the roses have a flat back. You can add extra beaded scrapbooking embellishments if you'd like.

  4. For a final vintage touch, dry brush the edges of the rulers with Neopaque in black.
