Yard-zee DIY Backyard Game

In the Designer's Words: "Make your backyard games sparkle with this family favorite game. Create your own XL set of dice for Yahtzee or any other dice game."

The Yard-zee DIY Backyard Game is going to transform your outdoor time this summer. This outdoor game idea is simple to make and sturdy enough to be used time and time again. Created out of wood craft ideas, this DIY game can be played by kids (and adults) of all ages. All of the regular rules of Yahtzee apply, but you could easily make your own game rules with these dice crafts. You will never be at risk of having a boring barbeque or festive failure when you have this summer craft idea on retainer.

Dice Games For Kids

Not only is this project one of the easiest DIY projects ever, but it can become an educational way to keep your kids entertained this summer. Both of these dice games require a writing surface and utensil to keep score, but if you have a sidewalk or patio near where you'll be playing, we have another summer solution: sidewalk chalk! These games will help your children honeĀ in on their addition and critical thinking skills, but they'll just think they're having fun.

Beat That!

  1. Dice needed: 2-5

  2. How To Play: Players take a turn by rolling the dice and placing them aside in order to make the highest number possible. For example, if a player throws a three and a four, they would have a score of 34. If the other player throws a five and a two, they would win with a score of 52.

  3. Variations: Playing for the lowest number possible or setting a score (such as 500 or 1,000) that players would need to reach to win the game.

2. Around the Clock

  1. Dice needed: 2

  2. How to Play: Choose someone to begin with dice throw (lowest number wins). The object of the game is to roll all 12 numbers that are possible with two dice. Once a player gets a number, they move on to the next number on their next turn. Players can reach the score by adding dice or by rolling a single digit number on the die (i.e., a 2 can be scored by rolling a 2 or throwing two 1's; throwing a 6 and a 3 could count for a 6, a 3, or a 9).

I love playing dice games, and I really love this idea for taking a popular game outside in a big way! This looks like it would be a lot of fun to play, too.
