Glistening Snowflake Placemat and Coaster

This crochet table setting glistens with the snowflake detail and adds a bit of elegance to the table! This free easy crochet pattern is fun to make and is seasonal for the entire winter.

MATERIALS:

• Caron Simply Soft yarn in Soft Green, Orchid and Soft Blue, Lion Micro Spun yarn in White
• needle to take yarn and H hook or hook needed to obtain gauge.

FINISHED SIZE:
Placemat: 12” X 17” Coaster: 4” X 4-1\4”

GAUGE:
4 hdc = 1”, 3 rows hdc = 1”.

STEPS:

LARGE SQUARE PLACEMAT (6” X 6-1\2”):

ROW 1: With yarn and H hook ch-22, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (20 sts)
ROW 2-17: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn. End row 17 fasten off.
-Make one in Soft Blue, one in Soft Green and two in Orchid. With needle and yarn sew one Orchid square onto top of Soft Blue square and one Soft Green square on top of last Orchid square. Sew tog to form a four square block.

SMALL SQUARE PLACEMAT (3” X 3-1\4”):
ROW 1: With yarn and H hook ch-12, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (10 sts)
ROW 2-9: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn. End row 9 fasten off.
-Make four in Orchid, two in Soft Blue and two in Soft Green. Sew the squares tog as you did for the large squares and then sew into two blocks. Sew one block on top of the other. Sew this strip of two blocks to the large block. With Orchid and H hook join in any st on completed placemat, ch-1, sc sa st as beg ch-1, even; sc in ea st and end of ea row around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off. With needle and Micro Spun yarn make simple line snowflakes in all the squares.

COASTER (2” X 2-1\8”):
ROW 1: With yarn and H hook ch-9, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (7 sts)

ROW 2-5: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn. End row 5 fasten off.

-Make two in Orchid, one in Soft Blue and one in Soft Green. Sew

squares tog as you did for placemat. Edge in orchid and sew on snowflakes
